David Tennant and Micheal Sheen’s presence have been confirmed for Good Omens Season 2, the popular Amazon / BBC U.K. series. David Tennant and his online partner from the web series “Staged,” Micheal Sheen, have left the confines of their virtual studios and re-entered the real world. The production will continue in beautiful Scotland.
Fans of the famous BBC series from the 1970’s I, Claudius will likely be delighted to hear that star Derek Jacobi (Vicious) will reprise his role as Metatron from Season 1. Furthermore, joining him will be his former co-star of the Claudius series, the incomparable Dame Siân Phillips (David Lynch’s Dune).
Also returning for Good Omens Season 2 are the talented trio of Mark Gatiss (BBC’s Sherlock; Queers, Old Vic Theatre), Reece Shearsmith (The League Of Gentlemen), and Steve Pemberton (also The League Of Gentlemen). Niamh Walsh (Jamestown) returns as well.
New faces include Tim Downie (Outlander), Andi Osho (I May Destroy You), Pete Firman (The Magicians), and Alex Norton (Pirates Of The Caribbean). Regretfully, Benedict Cumberbatch and Oscar winner Frances McDormand won’t be reprising their roles for Good Omens Season 2.
The six episodes of Good Omens Season 1 stayed pretty close to the source material, the novel co-authored by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. Good Omens Season 2 will reportedly explore new storylines inspired by the original work, focusing and developing the unusual friendship between the angel Aziraphale (Micheal Sheen) and his hip counterpart, the demon Crowley (David Tennant).
The two supernatural characters were present during the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the garden of Eden. Over the millennia, they developed an affection for humankind. Both are quite put out in Season One to hear that the apocalypse is scheduled to occur shortly and join forces to thwart it. Naturally, everything didn’t end, hence Season 2.
Good Omens Season 2 will reportedly start with an unexpected messenger that presents the duo with an intriguing mystery. Other cast members confirmed include John Hamn, Miranda Richardson, Doon Mackichan, Nina Sosanya, Liz Carr, Gloria Obianyo, Shelly Conn, and Quelin Sepulveda.
Neil Gaiman is continuing as executive producer, and shares show running duties with executive producer Douglas Mackinnon who also directs. John Finnemore joins Gaiman to co-write the series with the help of Cat Clarke, Andy Nyman, and Jeremy Dyson.
Good Omens Season 2 is being produced by Amazon Studios, BBC Studio Productions, Narrativia, and The Blank Corporation.
